Vir Das on his new show Inside Out
Vir Das is ready with a new show. It’s called Inside Out and it premiers on Netflix on December 16. Explaining the concept behind the show Vir says, “It started out just to raise money for different charities. I'd do an online show every night to raise money and give the ticket sales away. To warm up the audience I'd ask 'what’s the first thing you're going to do when the world is normal again?'. Suddenly people all over opened up about their dreams. And I knew this was a moment I needed to capture. So the entire show is a comedian asking people across the world that one question.”
Vir says he enjoyed his lockdown period. “I’ve been a circus performer for the past decade, travelling seven months a year. So I’ve never had this kind of time at home. So it’s nice to have this pause. So far I’ve been regurgitating output for the past decade now I’ve time to ingest content. And I had really been ignoring the digital platform. So far I had done some stand-up on Netflix. But never played the YouTube or the Instagram game. I am just taking time off to put up some uplifting feel-good content on those two platforms.”
For the lockdown entertainment seekers Vir has daily treat. “I set up a show on zoom every night where I work way my backward through the day. It’s a 90-minute daily show with tickets sold and the proceeds going to various charities and causes, like Helpage, migrant workers, children with cancer.”
Vir feel the lockdown is the best thing that could have happened to contain the virus. “Absolutely I feel our central government and state ministers have done a really good job. Every country is marching to its own beat in this Corona crisis. India too is doing its own thing and the Government decided on the lockdown at the right time. But I would love to see more testing kits and better relief packages.”

Taika Waititi is back for Thor: Love And Thunder, but could the movie also bring back another dead Marvel character?
Yes, Scorsese’s ‘Casino’ Out Hustles His Iconic ‘Goodfellas’
“When you love someone, you’ve gotta trust them. There’s no other way. You’ve got to give them the key to everything that’s yours. Otherwise, what’s the point? And for a while, I believed that’s the kind of love I had.”
The opening lines from Martin Scorsese’s “Casino” immediately set it apart from other films about the mafia: the words of “Ace” Rothstein (played by Robert De Niro) are about a longing for a life he cannot have, in a world he fails to control.
Adding to this sense of loss is how, seconds later, Rothstein steps into a car that explodes, while the exemplary opening credits (designed by Saul and Elaine Bass) unspool.
Following the prelude in 1983, the story then steps backward to 1973, where we see how De Niro’s Rothstein builds his own insulated empire with the Tangiers casino in Las Vegas. The daily operations, personally overseen by Rothstein and his right-hand man (a silent but perfectly cast Don Rickles), keep the gambling tables and slot machines tightly guarded, the cheaters crawling away maimed and the gangsters overseeing the profits from afar happy.
When Nicky, Rothstein’s loose-cannon childhood friend (Joe Pesci) moves to Vegas for a piece of the action, it signals the beginning of the end. Likewise, Rothstein’s attraction to a known hustler and casino fixture named Ginger (Sharon Stone), whose charm inspires Rothstein to feel a love in his heart that is never reciprocated.
RELATED: Walter White vs. Tony Soprano: And the Winner Is …
Rothstein convinces Ginger to marry him, despite her admitting there’s no attraction. Rothstein’s one request is that Ginger honors his demands that she keep his “trust,” which is around when she and Nicky begin to topple Rothstein’s carefully mounted kingdom.
Scorsese’s hypnotic film depicts a man in total control of a world he lawlessly assembled. Meanwhile, his personal life is spiraling out of control. It’s an amusing contrast, as Rothstein can’t corral the seemingly simple pleasures of domesticity and family.
Rothstein is initially drawn in and amused by the chaos Ginger brings from her first introduction (he admits via narration, “I fell in love right there”). Rothstein only excels at eyeing card sharks, having their hands broken by goons and throwing them out the back door.
The violence is horrifying, even for a film about mobsters, which is exactly right. Scorsese allows his characters to bask in their wicked excess for only so long. There’s always a price to pay for compromising one’s soul in his films.
An interesting touch is how the supporting cast is flush with comics and stage performers, many of whom were Las Vegas fixtures, like Rickles, Alan King, Dick Smothers (wonderful in a small role), Steve Allen & Jayne Meadows and Frankie Avalon. There’s even an amusing stand-in for Siegfried & Roy (deemed “Jonathan & David”).
An unexpected touch that pays off big time? A ripe comic supporting role for none other than movie critic Joe Briggs. Billed as John Bloom, the critic plays an unreliable overseer of the casino slot machines.
The storytelling, infused with Scorsese’s masterful grasp on the uses of cinema, is brilliant. “Casino” is always in motion, electrifying when the focus is on the central characters but just as captivating when it’s just showing us the day-to-day operations of the Tangiers.
A quick throwaway subplot, involving a billionaire named Ichikawa (Nobu Matsuhisa) and his time at the casino, is as enthralling as everything else here. Only in the film’s last act (the film clocks in at two hours and fifty-nine minutes) does the film start to wear you down. It’s not because Scorsese is running out of steam.
The self-destructive behavior of the characters becomes hard to bear and the third act is punishing.
“Casino” lingers on wonderful character details, like Nicky’s habit of always making sure he’s home in time to make breakfast for his son (an amusing ritual for a career psychopath), Rothstein’s rage over the inadequate number of blueberries in a casino muffin, the amusing idiocies of “Aces High: The Sam Rothstein Show” and the hilarious visual of a fed plane landing on a golf course after running out of fuel from circling Nicky’s gang for too long.
De Niro is wonderful -- he has some emotionally explosive scenes, but there is actually a great deal of subtlety to his characterization. Note his controlled demeanor during a tense confrontation with Ward’s father, in which Rothstein insists he enjoys doing favors but won’t allow an idiot to work for him.
There’s also the volcanic scene where Rothstein throws Ginger out, only to have her return moments later. They both reconcile in an attempt at tenderness that seems alien for both of them. Pesci’s Nicky is an impish wildfire of a man who cannot contain his tendency to bring disorder to any room he walks into. Scorsese paints the pivotal meeting between Rothstein and Nicky in the desert as a mythic confrontation of volatile forces.
Then there’s Stone, in an amazing performance that brought legitimacy to a career unfairly defined by the controversial “Basic Instinct.” Stone is up for the considerable demands of her role, which is not a hateful opportunist but a sympathetic, independent woman who refuses to be protected, even when she needs it from her lifelong pimp (James Woods, killer good in a small but essential supporting turn).
“Casino” did not over-perform at the box office; in fact, it barely broke even domestically, as the word of mouth was stunted by the mixed reviews, complaints about the violence and especially the length. Oddly enough, the other great De Niro film of ’95, Michael Mann’s towering “Heat,” opened within a few weeks of “Casino” and, if box office is any indication, the two films sort of cancelled each other out.
It wouldn’t take long for a renewed appreciation to kick in on home video. During its time in theaters, however, “Casino” was deemed a career high mostly for Stone, who was Oscar nominated for her work, while the film itself wasn’t met with universal enthusiasm.
In fact, a characteristically snarky segment on “Saturday Night Live” summed up the audience reaction at the time: on “The Hollywood Minute,” David Spade declared, “Casino…ca-seen-it…and I liked it better the first time I saw it, when it was called ‘Goodfellas.’”
Cue laughter.
RELATED: ‘Miller’s Crossing’ -- The Movie That Changed Everything for Team Coen
While “Goodfellas” will always be the most quotable (mostly due to Pesci’s scene-stealing work) and fondly remembered (that dinner scene with Mrs. Scorsese and the kitchen knife is flawless), “Casino” is the far more ambitious and dynamic film.
Before you threaten to bury me in the Vegas desert, consider the scope of what Scorsese has achieved here: working far outside “the neighborhood” (or, as the mobsters refer to it here, “back home”), Scorsese has shaped a real life tragedy that is every bit William Shakespeare as it is Nicholas Pileggi.
Consider how Rothstein, with his grand plans and reaches for power, family and respectability, is a King Lear to Ginger’s obviously unraveling Lady Macbeth. Picture how Pesci, despite what critics said in 1995, is not repeating himself but actually portraying an uncontrollable monster even scarier than his unhinged Oscar winning turn as Tommy DeVito.
“Goodfellas” portrays the passing of time on a cluster of family-oriented criminals, whereas “Casino” is about this as well but also how the climate, and not just the moral malaise, catches up to men and women who think they will never have to pay for their sins.
This being Scorsese, the use of the Biblical term isn’t out of the question, as this, as much as “Goodfellas,” “Mean Streets,” “The Departed,” “Who’s That Knocking at My Door” and several Scorsese works not in the crime genre, are exploration of the wages of sin.
The characters of “Casino” and other Scorsese films portraying criminal behavior may be shocking but make no mistake, they exist in a moral universe and pay for their excesses.
“Casino” was a bit much for audiences in 1995 and is still an overwhelming experience (watching Rothstein save his daughter yet again from her out of control mother is as grueling as seeing a rival gangster have his head in a vice).
Scorsese doesn’t flinch from any of this, as Pileggi changes the names but basically re-tells this dark piece of history how it actually happened. Its power is showing us that no one is above falling from a great height, as anyone willing to bet their soul in pursuit of moral compromise will eventually lose everything they have.

While Wajid was Muslim, Kamalrukh is Parsi and the college sweethearts tied the knot under the Separate Marriage Act that allows one to follow their own faith post marriage.
Kamalrukh has two children with Wajid- a 16-year-old daughter and a nine-year-old son. After the post, she spoke to a daily about the trauma she went through in her 17-years of marriage. Kamalrukh revealed that she now has to fight for her children's due inheritance as Wajid's family has usurped his assets post his death. After It’s My Life, Anees Bazmee’s Naam, starring Ajay Devgn, to also get a release
The Coronvirus-induced lockdown and the subsequent closure of theatres for many months led to many films releasing directly on OTT platforms. In the midst, Anees Bazmee’s ten year old film It’s My Life stood out. Instead of releasing on a streaming platform, it premiered on satellite yesterday, on Zee Cinema. Produced by Boney Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor, it starred Harman Baweja and Genelia Deshmukh and was an official remake of the 2006 hit Telugu film, Bommarillu.
And now another film of Anees Bazmee, which has been stuck since ages, is all set to be revived. Naam, starring Ajay Devgn, Sameera Reddy and Bhumika Chawla, is now being readied for release. In an interview to an entertainment portal, Anees Bazmee revealed that it might release on an OTT platform or like It’s My Life, it might directly release on television. He also promised viewers that the suspense thriller has one of the best performances of Ajay Devgn.
When contacted, Anees Bazmee confirmed that it’s true and added, “The producer has said Naam is releasing soon. I don’t have any more details on this.”
Naam was shot around 2004, two years after Deewangee (2002), which was suspense flick starring Ajay Devgn (along with Urmila Matondkar and Akshaye Khanna) and directed by Anees Bazmee, released. There were talks of this film releasing in cinemas in 2013 but it didn’t materialize. It was initially titled Benaam and later changed to Naam. Priyanka Chopra was earlier signed for this role but due to some issues, she was replaced by Sameera Reddy. The film was edited by Shirish Kunder and Himesh Reshammiya had composed the music. Incidentally, its producer is Dinesh Patel who gave a break to Ajay Devgn in Phool Aur Kaante (1991). The producer later made the 1995 flick Saajan Ki Baahon Mein, starring Rishi Kapoor, Raveena Tandon and Tabu followed by Naam.
Interestingly, last year, Anees Bazmee had tweeted an on-the-sets image of Naam. It featured Anees and a bespectacled Ajay shooting for the film in a snowy region. The filmmaker had tweeted his wish as well that he hopes that this film releases and that audiences get a chance to see it. It looks like his wish is finally going to come true.
This was taken in Switzerland, while shooting for an unreleased film 'Naam' with @ajaydevgn, #BhumikaChawla & @reddysameera. It was a suspense thriller jo aapko bohot pasand aati. Yahin ummeed karta hoon ki ek din yeh movie release ho aur aap sabko dekhne mile. #ThrowbackThursday pic.twitter.com/uJsYSBR3Dk

Chetan Hansraj roped in to play the antagonist in Pearl V Puri starrer Brahmarakshas 2
After presenting three interesting fiction properties in the festive month of October and captivating its audience with stories that capture the pulse of the Indian middle class, Zee TV now takes its audience on a trip of fantasy. The channel very recently launched the second season of its immensely successful and intriguing weekend thriller, Brahmarakshas. Produced by Balaji Telefilms, the show premiered its first episode on 22nd November with television actress Nikki Sharma essaying the lead character of Kalindi opposite popular actor Pearl V. Puri playing the role of Angad. Having made quite an intriguing start, the show is all set to make an exciting and captivating revelation on this Sunday.
While the initial episodes have introduced viewers to leading lady Kalindi’s battle against an evil force that seems to be lurking around her, there has been much speculation around the true identity and the human form that this Brahmarakshas will assume. In an exciting turn of events, viewers will find out in the latest episode of the show that the Brahmarakshas is none other than the character Vardhan Chaudhry played by the multi-talented television superstar Chetan Hansraj.
Out of the many negative characters essayed by Chetan, this role seems to be one of his most challenging yet exciting characters to portray. Talking about his love for this genre and what intrigued him to take up this character, Chetan said "The genre of supernatural shows itself has always been my favourite. When I first heard the story, I was instantly hooked, and I felt it had the perfect mix of thrill and drama that are required to complete a show of this kind. This is the best werewolf story we could have right now on Indian television. I am really looking forward to portraying this character because it is something very different from what I have essayed earlier and it brings its own set of challenges. Moreover, I am returning to Zee TV after nearly four to five years and I am glad to be a part of the family once again”.
The actor’s character has a rather ferocious avatar which takes Chetan nearly four hours to step in and out of the look. Talking about his look, Chetan said. “It takes minimum 4 hours and a team of four to five exceptionally skilful people to set the heavy prosthetics on my face. Shooting in the costume, that includes performing various action sequences comes as a big challenge by itself but none of this takes away from the interest and fascination that I have for this role. “While it might be quite a tough process, transforming from Vardhan into Brahmarakshas and back into Vardhan is actually the most exciting part of this character.”
The identity of the Brahmarakshas might be out in the open, but what does Vardhan turn into the Brahmarakshas and why is he after Kalindi?

Richa Chadha starrer Shakeela, based on the spunky South superstar, set for Christmas 2020 release in theatres
The film that chronicles the life of soft-core sensation, Shakeela, is all set for a big-screen multi-lingual release on Christmas. This announcement put to rest months of speculation surrounding the release of the film. The first poster of Shakeela starring Richa Chadha met with a lot of excitement.
The latest poster of the film that launches today features Richa in a glamorous avatar. Draped in a saree and with a gun in her hand, she pays the perfect ode to the South siren. In the background, there are allusions to her epithet of a box office queen, along with obscene words related to her body, religious affiliation, and skin colour. The poster is a testament to the fact that Richa conveys Shakeela's attitude and style with a rare spunk and vivacity. It also communicates that it is no dirty picture and explores Shakeela’s world beyond her erotic image and stardom.
Inspired by a shocking true story about the life of superstar Shakeela, the film traces her journey - filled with hurdles and discrimination – from playing side characters to becoming the face of B-grade films and eventually reaching the pinnacle of glory. Soon, she began threatening the stardom of the biggest superstars of that era in the South film industry.
Born in a conservative Muslim family, Shakeela began her career at the age of 16. Having worked in about 250 films, she emerged as an adult star who ruled the South film industries in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Talking about the film, director Indrajit Lankesh says, “Shakeela is my passion project. I have known her since 2003 when I worked with her. Her rags-to-riches story caught my attention. I did some extensive personal interviews with her and came to know so much about the person that she is behind that image of a star. And I knew that it is only Richa who can nail the part. This film will help youngsters who aspire to be part of the film industry understand that there is more to the overlying glitz and glamour.”
Shakeela also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Malayalam actor, Rajeev Pillai. The film is presented and produced by Sammys Magic Cinema Motion Picture Production and distributed by UFO. It is slated for a Christmas release.

The actor has made quite the name for himself since the 90s and even participated in Bigg Boss.
Apparently, the reason behind his brain stroke is the harsh weather condition of the region and he was immediately rushed to Srinagar for proper medical care and was then moved to Mumbai. The 52-year-old actor is currently in ICU and is responding well to the treatment. While there are no further details regarding his health conditions, he is currently admitted at Nanavati Hospital.

Making heads turn with their chemistry, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have been the talk of the town for as long as one can remember. Was ‘Cure for Wellness’ Too Gonzo for Its Own Good?
At the start of Gore Verbinski’s “A Cure for Wellness,” the CEO of a major corporation has gone missing and a workaholic bureaucrat named Lockhart (Dane DeHaan) has been sent to find him.
It’s even more dire than that.
The missing man, named Roland Pembroke, is believed to have gone to some bizarre Swiss health center and has either dropped all contact with the outside world or is perhaps being kept there against his will.
Pembroke’s company is in the midst of a vital corporate shakeup. Lockhart’s mission, in which he has to journey from New York to this isolated sanitarium in the Swiss alps, and bring back Pembroke no matter what, is a do-or-die undertaking.
We know from the opening scene that there’s inevitably something weird about all of this, as well as something to do with tainted water (from the opening scene, which is striking but never referenced again and comes off like a non-sequitur).
Once Lockhart finally arrives at his destination, he enters a dark castle on a hill that is part getaway resort, part healing cult compound and something of a lush hospital. Clients of the sanitarium come there willingly, seeking “the cure.”
It doesn’t take Lockhart long to locate Pembroke, nor the oddball running the place, an imposing doctor named Vollmer (Jason Isaacs). There’s also Hannah, a beautiful but lost ingénue (Mia Goth, so perfect in this and the “Suspiria” remake), whose presence is an entirely different kind of warning sign.
Verbinski (who co-wrote the film with Justin Haythe) has fashioned a confident, sumptuous horror film, paced like a novel and overflowing with unforgettable imagery.
Clearly made by a filmmaker working at the peak of his powers (even after “The Lone Ranger,” no less), Verbinski unleashes his abilities to craft startling imagery in service of a wacko narrative. This is all-stops out, large scale, disturbing and uncompromised, hardly what you’d expect of a lavish, studio-released genre film.
There is no visibility of audience coddling. It’s also overstuffed and leading man Dehaan, at first, seems miscast for the demanding lead.
From the start, the music gives a nod to the iconic score to “Rosemary’s Baby,” the set-up is somewhat akin to “Shutter Island,” and everything from “The Island of Doctor Moreau,” “The Abominable Doctor Phibes” and Gaston Leroux are sampled.
There’s also a big reveal that’s right out of “House of Wax,” as well as a tragic backstory with a key unveiling that mirrors the sad flashback conceit of “The Game.” This latter touch is a key plot component, as “A Cure for Wellness,” like David Fincher’s 1997 mystery, is basically about the fear of becoming our father.
However, the narrative overall is a re-working of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” with Lockhart a stand-in for Stoker’s Jonathan Harker (which makes the casting of the young DeHaan especially right), and Isaacs’ Volmer is clearly (in more ways than one) a reworking of Count Dracula.
Likewise, Goth’s Hannah is a Mina/Lucy equivalent, just as the removed, Swiss spa setting (and the overall point of its operation) has a narrative kinship with the goings-on at Castle Dracula.
While lacking an obvious Van Helsing stand-in, the details of hero’s journey are similar in theme -- only by immersing himself (literally) in this forever-young atmosphere is Lockhart able to face the villain and realize the full extent of his time-spanning and sinister plan. The emphasis on water over Stoker’s focus on blood is addressed in a bit of dialogue: someone notes, “this obsession with blood…the body is 65 percent water!”
Despite all the works that have clearly inspired this one, there is a nonetheless an immediacy to it and unlocking all the doors to the central mystery is extremely pleasurable. Despite excelling from making pirate movies (specifically the first three Captain Jack Sparrow adventures for Disney), offbeat children’s films (“Rango” and “Mousehunt”) and polished oddities (“The Weather Man” and “The Mexican”), Verbinkski clearly excels at the horror genre.
An instant flop when released in 2017, “A Cure for Wellness” took heat for its self-indulgent, 146-minute running time. Indeed, there is an extended sequence where Lockhart and Hannah casually leave the sanitarium and get into trouble in a local pub; Had the needless bar fight scene been excised, the voluptuous length would have been more excusable.
There’s also a bit where Lockhart escapes from a dentist chair and somehow ends up in a getaway car. It’s such a stretch, it’s almost insulting (did they film his efforts to flee and cut it?).
These two missteps at the editing level (the former scene would have helpfully shaved off about 13-minutes, while the latter ought to have been tightened) are the chief flaws in an otherwise bravura work.
DeHaan had this and Luc Besson’s high-profile bomb “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” (in which he also starred) open the same year, which likely set back his budding career. It’s too bad, as he’s an interesting actor and goes all in with Verbinski’s tendency to take things extremely far.
The same goes for Isaacs, Goth and a wonderful Celia Imrie (best known for the “Bridget Jones” movies). The cinematography, sets, sound and score are all award worthy.
RELATED: ‘Twin Peaks’ at 30: The Essential Viewing Guide
Some scenes are so shocking, I suspect audiences who gave this a shot in theaters may have jumped ship even before the bonkers, operatic finale. The whole thing is so richly atmospheric and creepy, it will even grab viewers who aren’t fully engaged in the central mystery.
There are dozens of truly wacko moments in “A Cure for Wellness,” like a horse that seemingly shows up in a sauna (not to mention a grisly bit involving an equestrian later on). There’s also Lockhart looking at his watch the very moment it stops working and a flashback that involves, a true cinematic first, a young boy playing with a RoboCop action figure.
To the screenplay’s credit, it seems like every loose end is tied up in the end. Verbinski’s vivid, lushly nightmarish journey is a jolting experience. An eventual cult following is a given. This is exactly the kind of untamed work Verbinski needs to be making and not Mouse House epics with pirates or cowboys.

Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh’s Sardar & Grandson to opt for release on Netflix in January 2021?
While the cinemas have reopened just last month, they’re still running on a 50% capacity considering the rise in COVID-19 cases. The filmmakers, despite the cinemas reopening have been opting for OTT releases to avoid losses. After Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan’s Coolie No. 1 opting for an OTT release, it’s Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh starrer Sardar & Grandson next in the queue. The film has recently attained its title and the shoot wrapped up a couple of months ago, now the makers are looking to release it on Netflix.
Considering the financial aspects, the makers do not want to risk a theatrical release when they are running only on a 50% capacity rate. The budget of Sardar & Grandson is of Rs. 30 crores, costing more than Kiara Advani starrer Indoo Ki Jawani. The makers of the film have apparently finalized the deal with Netflix as it gives a better chance at the return of investment to the producers, Nikkhil Advani, John Abraham, and Bhushan Kumar. The trio have joined hands together for the film and have already received a fixed amount that eliminates the losses they might incur in theatres.
Sardar & Grandson also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and John Abraham in special appearances and is directed by debutant director Kaashvie Nair. The movie is said to be revolving around the love and the bond between two different eras.

Kriti Sanon roped to play Sita in for Saif Ali Khan and Prabhas starrer Adipurush?
Only recently it was announced that Prabhas will be collaborating with Bhushan Kumar once again after Saaho for Om Raut’s directorial, Adipurush. The film revolves around the triumph of good over bad and it will feature Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh and Prabhas as Ram marking their first on-screen collaboration. Saif Ali Khan’s portrayal of the antagonist, King of Lanka, was confirmed a few days ago and the film will involve a lot of ancient forms of sword fighting and archery.
While there were a lot of speculations regarding the female lead roped in to play Sita, the likes of Anushka Shetty, Kiara Advani, Anushka Sharma, Keerthy Suresh were expected to be a part of the film. But, the makers have reportedly now got Kriti Sanon on board who seems to be on a roll with signing films, Adipurush being her sixth film scheduled to be shot between November 2020 and August 2021. Currently, she is shooting for Hum Do Humaare Do with Rajkummar Rao, post which, she will be working on Bachchan Pandey with Akshay Kumar, then moving on to Bhediya with Varun Dhawan, Kriti is said to have two more films lined up followed by Adipurush.
The film is being said to be shot in a studio against a chroma screen and director Om Raut has been in talks with the VFX artists that have worked on films like Avatar and War. Slated to release on August 11, 2022, Adipurush is going to be another mammoth-sized mythological film in Prabhas’ kitty after the Baahubali franchise.

Both Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi are known for their impeccable comic timings and happen to be two of the finest in the genre. However, as shocking as it sounds, they have never shared the screen space together. Even though Arshad Warsi and Akshay Kumar have been a part of the Jolly L. L. Now, Sajid Nadiadwala is about the change that with his upcoming film Bachchan Pandey. Akshay Kumar had announced the film earlier this year and the look had gone viral in no time. With Kriti Sanon as his leading lady, Akshay Kumar will also be seen sharing the frame with Arshad Warsi for the first time in their career. With Farhad Samji as the director, Bachchan Pandey will mark another collaboration with the director-producer-actor trio.

Brahmastra made on a budget ‘way over’ Rs. 300 crores; to be the biggest film ever made in India
Ayan Mukerji's directorial Brahmastra has been in the making for a long time now. After several delays, in the beginning of the year it was announced that the film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt will be released in December 2020 but the pandemic has caused a further delay in release.
There have been several reports about the film being made on a massive budget. Turns out the total budget of the film is way over Rs. 300 crore. Uday Shankar, Chairman of Star and Disney India, revealed some interesting details about the film at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2020. "It is the biggest-ever movie made in this country," he said. When asked about the film being mounted on a budget of Rs. 300 crores, he refused to give away a number but said, "Just to tell you, it is way more than that."
“Any movie like that, the experience that it seeks to create, needs to straddle across everything. It cannot be denied that most intense experience that only a theatre can generate,” he added.
Brahmastra has been in the production since 2018. It will bring together real life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt together for the first time. The film is the first of the proposed fantasy trilogy and also stars Nagarjuna Akkineni, Dimple Kapadia, and Mouni Roy.
The makers have decided to release the film in theatres when normalcy prevails.

Why Peter Weir’s ‘Witness’ Remains ‘A Kind of Miracle’
The opening shot in Peter Weir’s “Witness” is of Amish men marching out of a wheat field, heading to a funeral.
From the very start of Weir’s 1985 film, there’s no mockery in the way this exotic world and those within it are portrayed. The film respects their stillness.
The Amish of “Witness” are good humored, focused in their discipline, devout and internal with their feelings. Filmed in Lancaster County and Philadelphia, Pa., “Witness” is one of the few American films to portray the Amish without cynicism and, in fact, with a detectable awe.
Perhaps the film isn’t entirely accurate in its depiction of this world, though how could anyone outside of the sealed-off Amish community know?
A widow named Rachel (Kelly McGillis’ breakthrough role) takes her son, Samuel (Lukas Haas) to the city. The lad visits a train station restroom where he witnesses a murder.
Samuel sees a man who looks like he’s up to no good (of course he’s not, as he’s played by Timothy Carhart, arguably best known playing the man who attempts to rape Geena Davis in “Thelma & Louise”). A couple of thugs enter and stab him to death, while Samuel watches silently in a stall.
A brash cop named John Book (Harrison Ford) and his partner (Brent Jennings) investigate the case and quickly realize it involves a conspiracy that endangers all involved. Book returns Rachel and Samuel back to their home and winds up hiding with them until things cool over in the city.
As Book immerses himself with the Amish, (who are polite but distrustful), he finds himself falling for Rachel and putting both their lives at risk.
Ford found a role with “Witness” apart from the adventure/fantasy genres that require him to be a hero. John Book is certainly the film’s protagonist, though he’s rougher around the edges than prior Ford characters and there’s nothing inevitable about the character’s odd journey.
Post-Han Solo, “Temple of Doom” and Rick Deckard, Ford was able to shed the impenetrability of being “the good guy.” Book is not a sure thing, and the early scenes, at best, paint him as a capable but arrogant protector for Samuel.
“Top Gun” made McGillis an icon a year later but her excellent performance here matches the film’s tendency to be deeply complex but remain subtle. Haas, in a remarkable child performance, makes Samuel greatly expressive with almost no dialog.
RELATED: Ford Rescues ‘Call of the Wild’ from CGI Run Amok
Jan Rubes is wonderful as Eli, the father figure who is able to see the benefit of Rachel and Book’s attraction but incapable of saying anything. Jennings is superb in perhaps the film’s most under-appreciated turn and Josef Summer, as Book’s superior, is so good in these roles, it’s no wonder he played so many questionable authority figures afterwards.
Summer has a great line where he tries, and fails, to convince a fellow police officer (and us) of how the Amish operate: his character says, “We’re like the Amish. We’re a cult, too. A club, with our own rules.”
The late Alexander Godunov is imposing as Daniel, a potential suitor for Rachel who works hard to keep his composure while Book clearly distracts her. It’s a shame Godunov is best known for playing a terrorist in “Die Hard,” as his work here (and, to a lesser extent, “The Money Pit”) displayed an arresting character actor.
Viggo Mortensen makes his film debut as a member of the Amish community- his introduction to the film and cinema in general is by shaking Harrison Ford’s hand which, as far as first-time moments for great actors go, is a nice indoctrination.
“Witness” questions the authoritarian rule of the Amish community, with Eli’s warning Rachel that “going too far” with Book could lead to her being “shunned.” The element offers the one example of the film being critical (albeit mildly) of the Amish lifestyle. The film is on Rachel’s side and supports her strength and individuality in a “plain” society.
Book is a fish-out-of-water character, but this isn’t a comedy of any kind. In fact, most of the laughs come from awkward misunderstanding (like Book’s badly timed reference to a coffee commercial while having dinner with Rachel’s family).
The needs of the story (Book’s re-birth among the Amish, his mentorship to Samuel, etc.) wisely takes a pause for the extended barn-raising sequence. Of all scenes, this is typically the one audiences and fans of this film remember the most.
Why?
It illustrates how purely and simply Weir presents these characters, as well as how his observant and character-driven approach to the material is refreshingly at odds with anything Hollywood released that year.
The concluding scene, in which Ford and McGillis have a final moment together, is astonishing. Once again, the decision to underplay and not spell everything out, results in a directness and honesty that most mainstream filmmakers would normally need to dumb down and overexplain.
Weir’s sensitive, thoughtful thriller, which runs a remarkably tight 112-minutes and features a lovely Maurice jarred score, is kind of a miracle. A lesser filmmaker would have made this about action, sex and condescending jokes at the expense of the principled Amish versus Book’s improvisatory approach to life.
The Oscar-winning screenplay (by Earl W. Wallace, William Kelley and Pamela Wallace) pares the story down to its essence and doesn’t oversell anything.
Weir puts the emphasis on silence. This is a meditation on the impact and cruelty of violence. “Witness” isn’t anti-gun, though the film’s cause-and-effect exploration of violent acts makes it an intriguing contrast to the same year’s “Rambo: First Blood, Part II.” Somehow, a feature-length rumination on pacifism vs. brute force is never heavy handed or forced.
There’s a crucial sequence where Book, dressed to appear plain and Amish, joins Eli and a few others for a trip outside their village (Book needs to make a phone call). Some locals torment Eli and especially Daniel. Book, already angry, lashes out at the cruel locals; stunningly, it’s not a rewarding moment of comeuppance and we the audience are in the uncomfortable position of not cheering on Ford as he “heroically” fights back.
In fact, Weir lingers on the man whose face Book leaves caked in blood. Its ugly and unsatisfying, as well as alarmingly smart; “Witness” is reminding us that violence, as seemingly inevitable and direct as it can be, is not always (or ever) an ideal solution to a problem.
Weir illustrates this by showing no less than the biggest movie star of my generation punching a deserving schmuck in the face and not allowing any satisfaction in the moment, only regret, for Ford and for us, in our desiring the moment.
Have I mentioned how brave this movie is?

Manish Goel to enter Juhi Parmar starrer Hamariwali Good News
Zee TV recently presented a heart-warming story that captures the essence of the ever-evolving dynamics of the saas-bahu relationship in Indian society. Titled Hamariwali Good News, it showcases a unique role reversal between the daughter-in-law Navya (Srishti Jain) and her mother-in-law Renuka (Juhi Parmar) to give their family the much awaited ‘Good News.’ Versatile actress Juhi Parmar plays the role of Renuka in the show, who is the mother-in-law and the lifeline of the Tiwari family. Shakti Anand, on the other hand, is seen essaying the pivotal character of Mukund, who is Renuka’s husband and Navya’s father-in-law. A grocery shop owner, known for being a miser, he follows the motto of, 'Jaisa chal raha hai badiya hai, what is the need for change?’
We’ve seen how Renuka and Mukund have been distant from each other and while we’ve seen the duo clash and argue like every couple, recently Renuka was trying to make an attempt to get closer to Mukund once again. However, it looks like a new character is all set to take their arguments to a whole new level. Manish Goel is all set to enter as Dr. Raghav in Hamariwali Good News and it is his past equation with Renuka that will take the Tiwaris by storm.
Apparently, Raghav and Renuka were in love and he was going to ask for her hand in marriage. However, Mukund’s rishta came in before he could make his move and the rest is history. While her husband was initially unaware, he came to know after 7 - 8 years of marriage and since then his relationship with Renuka has never been the same. Mukund felt that he has been betrayed and has been suspicious of her ever since. When Raghav and Renuka bump into one another after so many years, how will Mukund react? And what will Raghav do after meeting Renuka? Well, the audience is in for a treat as a lot of twists and turns are set to play out in the next few episodes.
Talking about his entry into the show, Manish Goel mentioned, “When I was told about the concept of this show, I was immediately hooked. Hamariwali Good News has a novel and unique story and having been associated with several interesting shows, I could not give this one a miss. While I have worked in several shows, this one is quite different and so is my role. I will be playing Doctor Raghav and the role indeed comes with its own set of responsibilities and I hope I’m able to live up to that. As an actor, the role is really fantastic as Raghav has several layers to him and while some will associate with his emotions, others will hate him for creating havoc in Mukund and Renuka’s life, especially since they have just begun to see a glimmer of hope about them getting close once again. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of opportunities to play around and demonstrate my acting prowess with this show and I hope I can keep the audience at the edge of their seats with my entry.”
With Raghav all set to enter Hamariwali Good News and create chaos in Renuka and Mukund’s life, the audience will surely want to know what will happen next in the Tiwari parivaar.

As per the Central Board of Film Certification, there are a few PG-13 dialogues and sexual innuendos that have been chopped.
The first dialogue being, “Apne ghode ko astabal mein thodi rakhunga”, that went along with a lewd gesture has been deleted from the film. There was a scene where Satish is seen with his hands in his pants, but that has been replaced with a scene where he’s seen with a hand on his phone. Along with deleting the dialogues, there have been convenient changes made in the script. A dialogue that says, “Ab toh Supreme Court ne bhi…till…legal hai” has been replaced with, “Arre main bol raha hoon na tujhe hum cheating kar sakte hai”.
Another dialogue that says, “Crime against women jitna tumhaare capital…till…fraud ho tumlog” has been deleted as is replaced with, “Crime against women aaj kal jitna ho raha hai na uska koi jawab nahi hai tumhare paas…tolerant ke naam par fraud ho tumlog.”
Coming to the curse words, the use of word h*rami has been deleted, along with h*ramzade and is replaced with aatankwadi. The word ch*tiya has been replaced with gadha and the word f*ck has been muted wherever it has occurred.

Bombay HC quashes BMC’s demolition notice to Kangana Ranaut; asks actress to maintain restrain on public platforms
In a huge relief for Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, the Bombay High Court on Thursday set aside the demolition order passed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on September 9 directing demolition of alleged alterations carried at her Bandra office.
The case was being heard by the division bench of Justices SJ Kathawalla and RI Chagla, who said that Ranaut is allowed to make the bungalow habitable. However, it also said that the extent of the demolished position requires planning permission from the BMC.
The Court also asked to appoint a valuer to determine the compensation payable to the actress for the demolition of her property, which is to be submitted before the court in March 2021.
The BMC had alleged that Ranaut had unauthorized constructions in her Mumbai office, a portion of which was razed. However, the court denied any unauthorized construction. “The BMC order actuated by legal malice. There is material in pleadings that smacks of a malfide and was done to cause substantial losses. We would be perfectly justified to order compensation against respondents,” the bench said while comparing photographs of the premises.
“We do not accept allegations made by the petitioner in view of the alleged atmosphere in the state of the film industry. The petitioner is suggested to maintain restrain on public platforms. Irresponsible statements made by the citizens are best ignored,” the bench stated.
“Whatever be her statements, no action can lie except within four corners of law. Manner in which action was carried out leaves hardly any doubt that it was against the law and sinister. BMC has done it with disregard to the rights of the citizen,” the bench added.

Amitabh Bachchan, Neerja Birla converse on mental health
Suno Dekho Kaho is the noble campaign to deal with mental illness. And the extremely perceptive revealing and engaging conversation on mental health between mega-star Amitabh Bachchan and eminent philanthropist Neera Birla, now out on YouTube, is a part of Neerja Birla’s endeavour to create awareness on mental illness through her organization MPower.
In the outstanding 33-minute conversation, the two powerful celebrities with voices that carry weight discuss nearly every aspect of mental health including the impact it has on the physical and mental health of the caregiver and the stigma attached to mental health and how it can be eliminated. Mr Bachchan suggests a graceful word for mental illness such as ‘Vikaalta’ or ‘Adheer’. Uncannily, though this conversation was recorded before Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise, Mr Bachchan talks about how drugs and alcohol could be a smokescreen for acute depression.
Taking cognizance of the rising issues surrounding mental wellness in the country, Mpower Founder and Chairperson Mrs Neerja Birla and Bollywood Icon Shri Amitabh Bachchan have come together to address these concerns. In the freewheeling conversation, which was released as a video on Mpower’s YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram pages, the two leaders touched upon the harsh realities of mental health, the challenges people face because of it, and steps society can take to handle the situation with compassion. In order to give viewers valid responses, the conversation elucidated the differences between irrational fears and anxiety, and how one should handle the former, before it prevents them from carrying out routine tasks.
Mrs. Birla and Mr. Bachchan spoke about the importance of education, in helping identify, and understand the symptoms of mental illness. From school children to corporate professionals, from artists to politicians, it is never easy to understand what one might be going through, beneath the surface. The conversation approached the topic by talking about the stigma associated with ‘opening up’, and stressed upon the heightened need for awareness, especially among those who are prone to physical and substance abuse, leading to deteriorating mental health.
As the conversation progressed, they also sought to dispel common myths around mental health, the most pertinent being that it is unaffordable, which prevents people from seeking the help that they need. Mrs. Birla spoke about how, over the course of Mpower’s journey, they have counselled a wide cross section of society, so as to not deny anyone the chance to live with respect and dignity.
Speaking about the association with Mr. Bachchan, Mrs. Neerja Birla, Founder & Chairperson, Mpower, said, “Mr. Bachchan has been long associated with creating awareness on a variety of health issues that we Indians need to combat in our lives. Hence, we approached him if he could lend his support to amplify the conversations on a taboo topic like mental health. He graciously agreed to the cause. We are happy to collaborate with Mr. Bachchan for this campaign, which decodes the importance of mental well-being. It’s an honour to have a legend like him to discuss a topic which is sensitive and deep-rooted concern in our society. A powerful voice like his will help us highlight the issue of mental
health, which is the need of the hour. Amidst the challenging and competitive era that we are living in, it is extremely important to discuss mental health and bring it to the spotlight. With #SunoDekhoKaho, we aim to educate the citizens and make them aware of accessibility of mental health services in India. We truly hope with Mr. Bachchan addressing a wider audience through this communication, we will gradually be able to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health.”
