Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Ekta Kapoor, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur named most influential business leaders in Variety 500 list

Variety publication has released its fourth annual edition of Variety 500, an index that features the 500 most influential business leaders shaping the global media industry! Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan, Ekta Kapoor, Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and distributor Kishore Lulla are named in the Variety 500 list.

When it comes to Akshay Kumar, Variety reports, “In 2020, he was the sixth highest-paid actor in the world, with an estimated $48.5 million in earnings. He broke his longtime rule against working more than eight hours a day to finish the ’80s-set spy thriller Bellbottom, which shot on location in Scotland during the coronavirus lockdown in a production bubble with stringent health and safety protocols.” As far as work is concerned, Akshay has an array of a line-up of films including Atrangi Re, Sooryavanshi, Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, and Bachchan Pandey.

Actor-producer-director Aamir Khan is one of the beloved actors in the country. He has huge fandom abroad, especially in China. According to Variety, his “2016’s Indian release Dangal was an unexpected $190 million runaway hit and India’s all-time highest grosser. The 2018 Khan starrer Thugs of Hindostan was a disappointment but only by Khan’s own exalted standards. Budgeted at $32 million, the film grossed $54 million, including $9 million in China. In its wake, Khan has sought to shine a light on important Indian social issues, narrating and producing “Rubaru Roshni,” an anthology doc about victims of violence.” The actor is currently working on Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of Forrest Gump.

Producers Ekta Kapoor, Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur have been working on creative content for years. EXCLUSIVE: Sonu Sood to turn producer

Sonu Sood has always said that he came to Mumbai to become a hero. While onscreen he may have shone as an antagonist, 2020 truly made him a hero in real life. What started as a mission to help migrants reach their hometown during the lockdown, the actor is now helping people get back on their feet, providing medical aide and scholarships. Now, Sonu Sood is all set to conquer the world of film producing. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Sonu Sood spoke about his plan to turn producer.

When asked if we can see him turning a producer anytime soon, Sonu said, “Of course I am producing. My meetings are happening at final stages. Let's hope that next time I come with the tag of an actor-producer. I am looking at scripts that I believe in, scripts that will inspire people, and scripts that I always wanted to be a part of and I am glad I am able to go through those chapters of my life.”

Meanwhile, Sonu Sood’s new image in the eyes of people has impacted his professional life as well. The actor who has been shooting for two films down South had to reshoot his portions as the makers felt the audience would not want to see him in negative characters anymore. He also said that he has been receiving multiple scripts to play the lead ever since people have started looking at him like a saviour.

Channing Tatum in final talks to join Sandra Bullock in Paramount Pictures’ The Lost City Of D

Back in October 2020, it was rumoured that The Proposal duo Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock may reunite for Paramount Pictures' next project The Lost City Of D with up and coming directors, Adam & Aaron Nee. But, it seems like Reynolds is not a part of the project. Instead, actor Channing Tatum is in final talks to join Sandra Bullock in the film.

According to Variety, "The picture stars Bullock as a reclusive romance novelist who was sure nothing could be worse than getting stuck on a book tour with her cover model (Tatum), until a kidnapping attempt sweeps them both into a cutthroat jungle adventure, proving life can be so much stranger — and more romantic — than any of her paperback fictions."

Seth Gordon pitched the idea and Oren Uziel penned the first draft. The latest draft has been written by Dana Fox. Deadline further reveals, "Gordon is attached to produce via his Exhibit A Films. Bullock is producing through her Fortis Films along with Liza Chasin via her company 3dot Productions."

Rakul Preet Singh tests negative for COVID-19; says can’t wait to start 2021 with good health and positivity

Actor Rakul Preet Singh who had started shooting for Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan starrer MayDay had recently tested positive for COVID-19. Today, Rakul shared that she has tested negative and has recovered from the virus.

Taking to her social media handle, she thanked her fans for pouring in good wishes and love. “Happy to share that I have tested negative for COVID-19. I am feeling absolutely fine. Thank you for all your wishes and love. Can’t wait to start 2021 with good health and positivity. PS: let’s be responsible, wear masks and take all precautions," her statement read.

Just a week ago, Rakul had informed through social media that she has tested positive. Her statement read, “I’d like to inform everyone that I have tested positive for COVID-19. I have quarantined myself. I am feeling fine and will rest up well so that I can be back at shoot soon. Request everyone who met me to kindly get yourself tested. Thank you And please stay safe.”

On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh will be seen in MayDay, Attack and Sardar and Grandsons.

Fox Star Studios’ exit from film business puts a question mark over its three-film deal with Akshay Kumar

In November 2018, Fox Star Studios announced that it has signed a three-film deal with superstar Akshay Kumar’s banner Cape Of Good Films. It seemed like the beginning of a great association and obviously, it got the trade quite excited. The first movie as part of this partnership was Mission Mangal, the super-hit 2019 sci-fi drama. Fox and Akshay then followed it up with Laxmii. It was scheduled to release in cinemas on Eid 2020 but due to the shutting of theatres in the lockdown, it got a direct OTT release, on Disney+ Hotstar, on Diwali.

If you are wondering which would be the third film under this partnership, then sadly it seems it would not happen. A source says, “The three-film deal was signed after Akshay Kumar and Fox Star Studios enjoyed working with each other in Jolly LLB 2, one of the biggest hits of 2017, and a solo production of Fox. When the deal was signed in 2018, no one anticipated that the studio would exit the business and would be taken over by Disney. It seems that Disney is not interested in getting into film production in India. Also, it’ll prefer to keep intellectual property rights of the films, but our artistes and producers here don’t expect that from studios. As a result, it’s question mark on the future of this deal and whether this third film in question would be made in near future.”

We approached Disney’s team to ask about the said deal but they were unavailable for comment.

A trade expert adds, “Akshay Kumar is booked for the next two years. He’ll be shooting for Bachchan Pandey, Raksha Bandhan, Ram Setu, Mission Lion, Mudassar Aziz’s next, Yash Raj Films’ next, etc. He has finished shooting for Sooryavanshi, Bellbottom, Prithviraj and Atrangi Re and would be taking out time to promote these films as well. Even if this impending film gets made, it’ll only happen after mid-2022 or 2022-end.”
