Gremlins director Joe Dante has spoken out in recent months, criticizing The Mandalorian’s Grogu (more colloquially known as Baby Yoda) as a ripoff of his movie’s fuzzy mascot, Gizmo the Mogwai. When Gremlins spawned onto screens in 1984, Gizmo became a bona fide star, stealing the movie from its human leads, and selling thousands of mini-plush Gizmo dolls.
