The League Review: A Breathtaking Retrospective of Baseball and Racism in America

Jackie Robinson shattered the racial divide in baseball and became a transformative figure in American history. But he wasn't the first Black player in a Major League Baseball game. That distinction belongs to Moses Fleetwood Walker of the Toledo Blue Stockings in 1884. His name and accomplishments, like many of the Negro Leagues players, are largely forgotten. Director Sam Pollard gives these incredible athletes their long overdue recognition in a breathtaking retrospective of our national pastime through the awful injustice of segregation.
