In 2019, a light novel, or a kind of book targeted towards young adults, was released in Japan. It was successful enough that a year later, it was serialized in a manga format throughout 2020 and 2021, and it was then licensed and translated for North American audiences to consume on the other side of the world. This series was titled The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes, and now, in 2023 the anime movie is finally ready to be released for North American audiences.
